WHAT DOES IT TREAT?

HEXIFER is used to prevent anemia and vitamin & mineral defiicency in, women during pregnancyand breast- feeding, people who are addicted to alcohol and aged people who are disabled or ill. This medication is also used in the treatment of:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • Excessive bleeding during menstruation
  • Canker sores
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Osteoporosis
  • Malabsorption problems
  • Heart, kidney and liver diseases

MODE OF ACTION

The main component of HEXIFER is iron. It is necessary for the production of hemoglobin.

This medication also supplies an amount of folic acid. It is important for forming red and white blood cells. It participates in the DNA synthesis and cellular division.It also plays a key role as a "methyl donor" to regenerate methionine from homocysteine.

The antioxidant molecules fight damage by free radicals that can harm cellular structures.

The vitamins and minerals help in shoring up bones, healing wounds, strengthening immune system and repairing cellular damage.

The proteins in HEXIFER aids in the structure, function and regulation of the body's tissues and organs.

HOW TO USE?

HEXIFER is usually taken by mouth. Iron works better on an empty stomach but you may use it after a meal if it upsets your stomach. Some foods like whole grain cereals, diary products, coffee and tea can decrease the amount of iron absorbed by the body.

POSSIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS

The common side-effects are Stomach upset, Nausea/vomiting, Darkened stools, Constipation, Diarrhea and Blackened teeth

The serious side-effects are

CHECK IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC

Do not forget to inform your doctor if you are allergic to sulfites and tartrazine dyes. Discuss with your doctor if you have the following conditions:

  • Diabetes
  • Stomach or intestinal ulcers
  • Asthma
  • Intestinal inflammation
  • Thalassemia
  • Premature infants

KEEP IN MIND

HEXIFER should not be given to children below 12 years of age.
High doses of HEXIFER are likely unsafe for children and can also prove fatal.
This medication is known to be safe for pregnant and breast- feeding women and is essential to prevent birth defects.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

The effectiveness of certain antibiotics, biophosphonates, methyldopa, mycophenolate mofetil,penicillamine, etc are decreased when taken together with this drug. Hence, take HEXIFER two hours before or after these medications.
Levodopa and Levothyroxine is not to be taken along with HEXIFER, since they interact with each other.

DID YOU MISS IT?

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as you remember. It should not be a problem if you skip the missed dose and resume your usual schedule also. Do not increase the dose to catch up.

KEEP IT SAFE

Store HEXIFER at room temperature between 15 and 30 degree C. Keep away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
